Nigel Benn Delivers Bold Verdict on Dream Froch-Calzaghe Matchup: "No Contest"

Calzaghe, now 53, got his hands on the WBO world title in 1997 when he beat Chris Eubank. He defended it against tough opponents like Robin Reid, Richie Woodall, Jeff Lacy, Mikkel Kessler, and Sakio Bika. The Welsh fighter then moved up to light-heavyweight, where he capped off his career with wins over Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. He retired undefeated after 46 fights.

Froch, six years younger at 47, grabbed his first world title - the WBC - in 2008 and held it until 2011. He added the IBF strap in 2012 and kept it for three years, then picked up the WBA belt in 2013. The Nottingham fighter racked up impressive wins against Jean Pascal, Jermain Taylor, Andre Dirrell, Lucien Bute, and Mikkel Kessler.

"He could have fought Joe Calzaghe, but that never happened. Joe would have won that 100 percent. He was the best super middleweight of all-time," Benn said while speaking to Fruity Slots.

Chris Eubank Sr backs up Benn's view. He thinks Calzaghe's high punch output and quick footwork would have worn Froch down over time.

Froch ended his career with two fights against George Groves. The first ended in a controversial early stoppage. The rematch, however, finished with a bang. Froch landed a spectacular one-punch knockout at Wembley Stadium, wrapping up his boxing journey in style.

While the fantasy fight between Froch and Calzaghe never happened, it's worth noting that Froch believes Robin Reid deserved the win in his real-life bout against Calzaghe. But in the eyes of Benn and Eubank Sr, there's no doubt about who would have come out on top in this British super-middleweight showdown.
