Calzaghe's own career was nothing short of spectacular. He held the WBO super middleweight title from 1997 to 2008, defending it over 20 times - a record in the division. His fast hands, non-stop work rate, and slick southpaw style made him a nightmare for opponents.
The Welshman wrapped up his career by moving up to light heavyweight. There, he grabbed The Ring magazine title by beating Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. Calzaghe hung up his gloves with a perfect 46-0 record and later got the nod for the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014.
During his career, Calzaghe faced off against some big names. He beat Chris Eubank, Mikkel Kessler, and Jeff Lacy. But his win over Robin Reid didn't sit well with everyone. Carl Froch, another British boxing star, questioned that victory. Calzaghe has said he wishes he'd fought Froch before retiring.
Now, onto Calzaghe's list of all-time greats. In his chat with First Round TV, he named these four fighters:
1. Marvelous Marvin Hagler 2. Sugar Ray Leonard 3. Muhammad Ali 4. Sugar Ray Robinson
Calzaghe picked two middleweights at the top of his list - Hagler and Leonard. He called Ali someone who "transcended the sport" and described Robinson as a "trailblazer".
It's worth noting that Calzaghe's list leaves out some modern greats. But it's clear he values the impact these fighters had both in and out of the ring.
