Mosley, who fought professionally from 1993 to 2016, knows a thing or two about boxing. He won world titles in three weight classes and unified the WBC and WBA light-middleweight titles in 2003. He also beat Oscar De La Hoya twice and scored wins over Fernando Vargas, Ricardo Mayorga, and Antonio Margarito.
Jake Paul, the YouTuber-turned-boxer from Cleveland, got the better of Chavez Jr in their recent fight. The 28-year-old Paul looked good, according to Mosley.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Mosley said:
"Jake Paul did what he needed to do and he won and he looked good."
But Mosley didn't have kind words for Chavez Jr's performance. The former WBC world middleweight champion, now 39, didn't impress the boxing legend.
"Junior on the other hand, he didn't throw any punches until the third or fourth round or something, he was kind of just walking forward and I don't know what he was doing, it was weird, it was weird to see that type of fighting."
Mosley didn't hold back in his advice for the Mexican fighter:
"Junior needs to retire from here. I mean, if you can't throw any punches in two, three, four rounds you need to retire. What are you doing? You basically just living off your father's name, that's basically what you're doing because you didn't even fight."
The boxing world has been talking about Chavez Jr's poor showing against Paul for the past few days. Meanwhile, Paul has his sights set on a world title shot. He might face Gilberto Ramirez or Badou Jack next, as these two hold three of the four world cruiserweight titles between them.
