Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez (born June 19, 1991) is a Mexican professional boxer and a two-division world champion. A native of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Ramírez began boxing at age 12 to find a path away from a challenging environment. He claimed multiple national amateur titles before turning professional in August 2009.
In April 2016, Ramírez earned the WBO super middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Arthur Abraham, becoming the first Mexican boxer to claim a world title at that weight and the second-ever Mexican to win a title above middleweight. He defended the belt five times against top contenders including Jesse Hart.
Following an undefeated run through light heavyweight, highlighted by wins over the likes of Sullivan Barrera, Ramírez challenged Dmitry Bivol in November 2022 but suffered his first professional defeat via decision.
In October 2023, he debuted at cruiserweight with a unanimous decision victory over Joe Smith Jr. He then became Mexico’s first cruiserweight world champion by winning the WBA title in March 2024 against Arsen Goulamirian, and further unified the division by defeating Chris Billam‑Smith via unanimous decision in November 2024.
Ramírez remains an active world champion, scheduled to defend his unified cruiserweight titles next in June 2025. He is recognized for his southpaw stance, combination punching technique, and his pioneering achievements as a Mexican boxer across multiple weight classes.
