Jones last fought in 2023, losing a decision to Anthony Pettis. That bout brought his career total to 76 fights with 66 wins and 10 losses. During his prime, Jones was ranked as the pound-for-pound best boxer. He won titles in multiple weight classes, starting at middleweight and moving up to super middleweight, light heavyweight, and even heavyweight.
In a recent chat with WEAR Channel 3 News, Jones explained what got him thinking about a comeback:
"For some strange reason, last time I travelled, I watched George Foreman's movie, many things stuck in my head with the comeback at 44. I watched Muhammad Ali's movie. Again, the thing that stuck in my head was how often he came back. It's not coincidental I saw those things. I'm not a movie watcher, but because I know George and I know Muhammad, it made me think, is God talking to me? Is he trying to tell me something?"
Jones has a few opponents in mind for his potential return. He called out Anderson Silva, the 50-year-old former UFC middleweight champion who's had some boxing experience. Silva beat Julio Cesar Chavez Jr but lost to Jake Paul.
Speaking of Jake Paul, he's on Jones' list too, along with his brother Logan. Jones didn't mince words when talking about these potential opponents:
"He's not gonna respond, he doesn't want this trouble. Jake Paul ain't gonna respond, Logan Paul ain't gonna respond. They don't want this problem … Those three."
Jones isn't stopping there. He's also mentioned wanting a rematch with Mike Tyson, who he fought in an exhibition match in 2020. Jones has even laid out some conditions for that potential fight. The UK crossover star KSI is another name Jones has thrown into the mix.
While Jones seems eager to lace up the gloves again, many fans would prefer to see him in safer, non-professional contests if he insists on returning. The boxing world will be watching closely to see what this famously slick fighter decides to do next.
