David Benavidez has called out Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, using strong language to express his frustration. The youngest ever super middleweight champion is tired of Canelo's reluctance to fight him.
Benavidez, now 27, recently moved up to light heavyweight. He won his debut in the new weight class against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on points. Before that, he racked up impressive wins over David Lemieux, Caleb Plant, Demetrius Andrade, and Anthony Dirrell.
Many fans think Benavidez is the challenge Canelo needs right now. But Canelo keeps rejecting the idea. He's even asked for $200 million to fight Benavidez. Instead, Canelo seems more likely to face Terence Crawford, the two-weight undisputed star.
Reports say Canelo and Crawford have agreed to fight in September in Las Vegas. This news has pushed Benavidez to speak out.
In an interview with The Miami Hustle, Benavidez didn't hold back:
"To be honest with you I feel like Canelo is a f**king p**sy."
He went on to explain:
"If we ever fight the man is making well over 100 million dollars. If he's saying I have nothing to offer, I'm nobody, I have no experience, this and that, if you're going to make 100 million fighting somebody with no experience, somebody that sucks, why would you not come beat my ass and collect the big bag on my head after the fight?"
With no Canelo fight in sight, Benavidez is focusing on the light-heavyweight scene. He's set to fight David Morrell on Saturday, February 1. This could mean a permanent move from super-middleweight for the naturally big, high-output puncher.
