Olympic champion Alexander Khizhnyak officially enters professional boxing.
One of the most decorated Ukrainian boxers of recent years has learned the name of his first opponent in the pro ring. It is 28-year-old Colombian Wilmer Baron, whose record includes 8 wins (6 by KO), 13 losses, and one draw.
The fight is scheduled for March 21 and will take place as part of a boxing show organized by Oleksandr Usyk's promotional company, Usyk 17 Promotions.
The event will be held at Equides Club in Lesnyky near Kyiv. It will receive wide coverage: the broadcast will be provided by the channel Suspilne Sport and the international platform DAZN.
30-year-old Khizhnyak approaches the transition to professionals with an outstanding amateur background. His achievements include gold from the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and silver from Tokyo 2020, as well as numerous medals from world and European championships.
