Andre Ward, the undefeated former world champion, has picked Roy Jones Jr. as his favorite fighter of all time. Ward shared this during a recent chat with Fight Hype.
Ward's boxing career was filled with big wins. He grabbed Olympic gold in 2004 and then moved on to rule the super-middleweight division. From 2009 to 2015, he beat top guys like Mikkel Kessler, Carl Froch, and Chad Dawson.
Ward didn't stop there. He moved up to light-heavyweight and won the WBA, WBO, and IBF titles. His biggest fights at this weight were against Sergey Kovalev. Ward beat Kovalev twice, with the second fight ending in a TKO in the 8th round in Las Vegas in 2017.
After that big win, Ward hung up his gloves. He left the sport unbeaten and is now seen as one of the best boxers ever.
In his chat with Fight Hype, Ward was asked about the beef between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Roy Jones Jr. He didn't want to get into that, but he did share something interesting:
"I ain't getting into that man, y'all know how I feel about all three of them but Roy was my favourite fighter of all time. I tried to emulate all three of them, Bernard, Floyd and Roy but Roy is my all time favourite fighter, that's it."
Ward's pick, Roy Jones Jr., is a boxing legend. Jones was at his best in the 1990s, winning world titles from middleweight all the way up to heavyweight. He beat big names like Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, and Mike McCallum.
Even at 56, Jones has said he might fight again. But for now, he can enjoy being the favorite fighter of another boxing great, Andre Ward.
