Naoya Inoue has moved past Oleksandr Usyk to become the new No. 1 fighter in The Ring’s pound-for-pound rankings. Following his win on Saturday, David Benavidez also climbed in the list of boxing’s elite. The full rankings are below. Inoue’s May 2 victory over Junto Nakatani at Tokyo Dome generated more than $30 million in ticket sales and over 500,000 purchases in Japan’s domestic market.
In the aftermath of that fight, The Ring reports that Turki Alalshikh wants to set up a showdown between Inoue and Jesse Rodriguez in January in Japan. In that matchup, Inoue would be defending his junior featherweight world title against Rodriguez, who is The Ring champion at junior bantamweight.
