Former boxer Juan Manuel Marquez thinks Canelo might face some hurdles in his Saudi Arabia fight. In a chat with ProBox TV, Marquez pointed out that adapting to a new continent, climate, and schedule could be tough for Canelo.
"You have to get used to the time change. You're on another continent and I think people have to get used to it. The toughest opponent is the schedule. The fighter I think is going to resent it in the sense that you're always used to fighting at a certain time. The fighter is the main point of what we're talking about, I think there is going to be a very significant problem. They have to get used to the schedule, the climate, many things that are not the same as your daily life, what you do, because they are different schedules and I think you have to adapt."
Canelo, widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, has made a deal with Turki Al-Sheikh to move his fights to Saudi Arabia. This move will likely bring Canelo a big payday.
After the Scull fight, Canelo's next opponent remains up in the air. There's talk about potential matchups with Terence Crawford or David Benavidez in the second half of 2025, but nothing's set in stone yet.
Despite his historic and winning career, Canelo still faces criticism from some corners of the boxing world. The Mexican star will decide on his future fights after the William Scull match in May.
