Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois might face off again in the ring. The Ring Magazine reported on July 12 that the rematch is being 'finalised' for Wembley Stadium.
Lennox Lewis, the former undisputed heavyweight champion, thinks Dubois has a good shot in the rematch. In an interview with BoxNation, Lewis said:
"I think he fares well. He's pretty positive right now and his next goal is he wants to be undisputed champ."
Lewis knows a thing or two about rematches. He avenged his upset loss to Oliver McCall in 1997 with an early finish. In 1999, he became undisputed champion in his second fight with Evander Holyfield. And in 2002, he got back at Hasim Rahman with a 4th round stoppage to regain his WBC, IBF, and IBO titles.
Dubois has been on a tear lately. He's now the IBF world champion after stopping Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua. His last fight with Usyk in August 2023 ended in a 9th-round stoppage loss, but not before Dubois knocked down Usyk with a shot that was ruled low.
Usyk, the former undisputed heavyweight champion, has been busy too. He's beaten Tyson Fury on points twice and claimed all the major heavyweight belts. He gave up the IBF strap to honor this rematch with Dubois. Now, he's gunning to become the first-ever two-time undisputed champion.
The rematch takes priority over Usyk's mandatory defence against Joseph Parker. BBC Sport also reported on July 12 that the fight is being 'finalised' for July at Wembley Stadium. But both sides say nothing's signed yet.
