Evander Holyfield doesn't think Floyd Mayweather should have a perfect record. The former undisputed champion at cruiserweight and heavyweight recently shared his thoughts on Mayweather's undefeated status.
Holyfield, known as "The Real Deal," believes Mayweather lost to Manny Pacquiao in their 2015 fight. That bout was a huge event, bringing in 72 million dollars at the gate and setting a record with 4.6 million pay-per-view buys.
"I totally thought he did," Holyfield said about Pacquiao winning the fight. "I actually thought Pacquiao did well."
Despite Holyfield's opinion, the judges saw it differently. They gave Mayweather a unanimous decision victory, adding to his impressive list of wins over top fighters like Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya, and Juan Manuel Marquez.
Mayweather retired in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record. He won world titles in five weight classes, from super-featherweight all the way up to super-welterweight. His undefeated status has become a big part of his legacy.
Holyfield's own career was full of big achievements. He's the only four-time heavyweight champion in history and has wins over legends like Mike Tyson, George Foreman, and Larry Holmes. He even thinks he should be seen as the greatest boxer ever, above Muhammad Ali.
Both Holyfield and Mayweather are considered among the best boxers of all time. But Holyfield's recent comments show that even among boxing greats, there's still room for debate about who really deserves to be undefeated.
Holyfield's opinion on the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight has been consistent since it happened. It's a reminder that in boxing, what happens in the ring is often open to interpretation, even years after the final bell.
