Makabu defeats Cieślak and becomes the new WBC champion

In the fight for the vacant WBC cruiserweight title Ilunga Makabu (27-2, 24 KOs) scored a twelve round unanimous decision win over previously undefeated Michał Cieślak (19-1, 13 KOs) on a temporary stage built especially for this event in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Makabu sent Cieślak to the canvas in the fourth round. In response Cieślak recorded in his asset a knockdown when Makabu touched the floor with his glove in the fifth round. After the competitive battle Makabu won with a score of 114-112, 115-111 and 116-111.

Papin undergoes a knee surgery

A few days ago Alexey Papin (11-1, 10 KOs) had to pass a difficult test in the face of Ilunga Makabu (26-2, 24 KOs). The previously unbeaten Russian had his moments in this battle, and he was able to show some of his toughness. The official  verdict has not displayed the advantage of Makabu in the ring too accurately, but in the end the winner was named correctly.

Lebedev may resume his career

The former cruiserweight champion Denis Lebedev of Russia plans to resume his career. Lebedev announced his retirement in July. "Denis could resume his career for the sake of the fight against Ilunga Makabu," said the representative of Lebedev's boxing team. On the Match TV channel Lebedev also expressed a desire to return to the ring.

Makabu stops Kudryashov

Ilunga Makabu (25-2, 24 KOs) scored a fifth round TKO over Dmitri Kudryashov (23-3, 23 KOs) in the main event of the boxing evening in Yekaterinburg, Russia. At the end of the fifth round when Kudryashov began to miss too much punches and did too little in response, the referee in the ring decided to stop the contest. The time was 2:36. According to the result of the battle Makabu received a vacant WBC silver cruiserweight belt.
