Floyd Mayweather has picked Terence Crawford as the best fighter in the world right now. The former champ shared his thoughts in a recent chat with Brian Mazique.
Mayweather knows a thing or two about being the top dog in boxing. He started his pro career back in 1996 when he was just 19. By October 1998, he'd already grabbed his first world title, the WBC super-featherweight belt. From there, he went on to become a five-weight world champ and retired in 2017 with a perfect 50-0 record.
Along the way, Mayweather beat some of the biggest names in boxing. He took down Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Manny Pacquiao, Shane Mosley, Juan Manuel Marquez, Oscar De La Hoya, Canelo Alvarez, and Miguel Cotto.
Now, he's giving props to Crawford. The Nebraska native has been tearing it up in the ring. He's currently the undisputed welterweight champ, and that's not even his first time holding all the belts. Back in 2017, he was the undisputed king of the super-lightweights. Oh, and he's got world titles in the lightweight and super-welterweight divisions too.
"I think Terence Crawford, right now in the sport of boxing, is the pound-for-pound best fighter. It's good to see him in the position that he's in … Terence Crawford, continue to be great."
Crawford's not resting on his laurels, though. He's got his sights set on even bigger things. He became the undisputed welterweight champ last year by beating Errol Spence, and now he's looking to make history. He's planning to jump up to 168lbs to take on Canelo Alvarez in September. If he wins, he'll be the first male fighter ever to be undisputed champ in three different weight classes.
Mayweather's stamp of approval is a big deal. Crawford's got the skills, the titles, and now the recognition from one of boxing's all-time greats. It looks like the sport's in good hands with Crawford at the top.
