Manny Pacquiao is getting ready to step back into the ring. The boxing legend will face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios on July 19, 2025, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao, now 46 years old, hasn't fought professionally since his loss to Yordenis Ugas in 2021. His last victory came against Keith Thurman in 2019. As the only eight-division world champion in boxing history, Pacquiao's return has got people talking.

Oscar de la Hoya, former boxer and current promoter at Golden Boy Promotions, shared his thoughts on Pacquiao's comeback. De la Hoya, who lost to Pacquiao in 2008, marking the end of his own boxing career, expressed some concerns:

"I'm a little worried about the speed. You're 46 years old, remember that. There's nothing wrong with taking a day off or two."

Despite his worries, De la Hoya believes Pacquiao still has something to offer:

"He will do well. He has experience. He has the power, because that is never lost."

Pacquiao's opponent, Mario Barrios, is 16 years younger at 30. The current WBC welterweight champion had a tough 2024, fighting to a split draw against Abel Ramos and facing a challenging bout with Fabian Maidana. Barrios' youth, energy, and hunger for victory could pose significant challenges for the returning legend.

The boxing community has mixed feelings about Pacquiao's comeback. Figures like Bob Arum and Amir Khan have shared different opinions on whether it's a good idea for the Filipino icon to return to the sport.

This fight will be more than just another match. It's a clash of generations and a test for Pacquiao. The outcome could have a big impact on his legacy.

De la Hoya's comments show respect for Pacquiao's achievements while also reminding us that age affects even the greatest athletes. As the fight date approaches, fans and critics alike will wonder: Will we see a triumphant return of a legend, or is this a risk that shouldn't have been taken?
