Carl Froch says he would have knocked out Joe Calzaghe if they had fought. The former British super middleweight world champion made this bold claim in a recent video on his YouTube channel.
Calzaghe, the celebrated Welsh boxer, retired undefeated after 46 fights. He held the super-middleweight title for 10 years and made more than 20 defenses. His impressive list of opponents includes Chris Eubank, Mikkel Kessler, Jeff Lacy, and Sakio Bika. Calzaghe ended his career at light heavyweight with wins over Roy Jones Jr and Bernard Hopkins.
Calzaghe's career was nearly flawless, but one fight that never happened was against Carl "The Cobra" Froch. Now, Froch has shared his thoughts on how that matchup would have gone.
"If I boxed Joe Calzaghe back then, this is how it would have gone. Two possible outcomes. He would have either beaten me on points, cause he's very good, very strong, very good fighter. Or, I'd have chined him, I'd have knocked him el sparko."
Froch didn't stop there. He added:
"I'd have backed myself to knock him out. I think the Calzaghe fight should have happened, and it should have happened for the fans, but it didn't. I'm totally blaming Joe Calzaghe on that, 'cause I think he knows he would have got Cobra'd."
It's worth noting that Froch made these comments on his own YouTube channel, where he often shares his opinions on boxing past and present.
While we'll never know for sure how a Froch-Calzaghe fight would have played out, it's interesting to consider. One boxer who lost to both men has claimed that Froch would have indeed won by knockout. But without the fight actually happening, it's all speculation.
The missed opportunity between these two British boxing greats will always be a topic of discussion among fans. It's one of those "what if" scenarios that make the sport so interesting to debate.
