Pacquiao's return after a four-year break from professional boxing has got people talking. His last pro fight was in 2021 when he lost to Yordenis Ugas for the WBA welterweight championship. Since then, he's only had two exhibition bouts - one against DK Yoo in 2022 and another against Rukiya Anpo earlier this year.
If Pacquiao wins, he'll break his own record. He's already the oldest welterweight champion, having won the WBA title at 40 years old when he beat Keith Thurman in 2019.
Abel Sanchez, who used to train Gennady Golovkin, shared his thoughts on the fight with Boxing News. He's got some worries but also sees reasons for hope.
"You know it's difficult for us as coaches to tell them to hang them up. He's older, he's been out of the ring, he's fighting I'm not gonna say a young champion but he's fighting a very decent champion, probably the lesser of the three welterweight champions but he is getting up in age, will he be able to recapture some of that speed and snap to his punches?"
Sanchez brought up Pacquiao's age and time away from the ring as concerns. He's not sure if 'Pac-Man' can bring back his famous speed and punching power.
But Sanchez also pointed out some positives. He thinks Barrios might be the easiest of the welterweight champs to face. Plus, he reminded us that older boxers have pulled off surprises before.
"Who knows, but George Foreman did it at a much, much later age so Manny has a chance, I think that he has a chance against a good champion."
Pacquiao himself seems confident about his comeback. Fans will have to wait until July 19 to see if the Filipino legend can make history once again.
