Parker's prediction comes after an impressive run of his own. He knocked out Martin Bakole in two rounds, then beat Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang on points. These wins have put him in pole position as the WBO mandatory challenger.
In an interview with Ring Magazine, Parker shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight:
"Usyk's a technician. He knows how to break you down. He's very good with footwork, hand movement, feints. He's a smart and intelligent fighter, a great mover. He knows how to avoid getting hit and knows how to hit back hard."
Parker acknowledged Dubois has improved since his first encounter with Usyk in August 2023. Dubois has stopped Anthony Joshua, Filip Hrgovic, and Jarrell Miller in recent bouts. But Parker still favors the champion:
"Dubois will be a different fighter from the first fight. He has the power and can catch him clean, but it's easier said than done. I'm leaning towards an Usyk win again."
In their first fight, Usyk stopped Dubois inside nine rounds. Dubois did have a moment when he dropped Usyk with a shot ruled low. Since then, Usyk has solidified his position as undisputed heavyweight champion by defeating Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Parker and Dubois were set to fight in February 2025, but Dubois fell ill. Parker instead knocked out Martin Bakole in two rounds. Now, Parker is first in the WBO mandatory rotation, putting him in line to challenge the winner of Usyk vs Dubois II.
The heavyweight division is heating up, and all eyes will be on Usyk and Dubois as they prepare for their rematch. Whoever comes out on top will have Joseph Parker waiting in the wings, ready for his shot at the title.
