Boxing's undisputed middleweight champion Claressa Shields has weighed in on the recent controversy surrounding rising star Keyshawn Davis, whose fight was canceled after he failed to make weight. In an exclusive interview with Fight Hub TV, the "GWOAT" expressed both empathy and a stark dose of professional reality for the young talent.
Shields admitted the news was difficult to hear, stating it personally affected her. "It stresses me out," Shields revealed. "It stresses me out for Keyshawn because he's so hungry, he's so ambitious, you know, and he just wants to win and he wants to fight."
While she was looking forward to seeing him compete, Shields didn't mince words when it came to the fundamental responsibilities of a professional fighter. She delivered a blunt assessment that every boxer must face.
"But at the end of the day, the first fight in boxing is to make weight. Sadly," she stated. "I'm hoping that he learns from this... and takes it seriously."
Shields believes this setback could be a crucial learning moment for Davis, urging him to refocus on the core principles of the sport. "I think that he just got off focus just a little bit, but he will learn from this... and he'll be champion again."
