Manny Pacquiao Reveals Unexpected Motivation for Ring Return: "It's Not About Money"

Pacquiao last fought professionally in 2021, losing to Yordenis Ugas. After that fight, he announced his retirement. The fighter known for winning world titles in eight different weight divisions said at the time:

"I never thought that this day would come. Boxing gave me a chance to find a way out of poverty."

But retirement didn't stick. Pacquiao recently took part in an exhibition bout against Japanese kickboxer Rukiya Anpo in 2024. Now he's set for a full return to professional boxing. When asked about his comeback, Pacquiao said:

"I'm coming back because it's my passion. I've been gone for four years but I always think about boxing. I really missed it."

The timing of Pacquiao's return is notable. He'll be inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame on June 8, 2024. If he wins against Barrios, he'll become the first Hall of Famer to win a major title after induction.

Barrios won't make it easy for Pacquiao. The current interim WBC welterweight champion is 17 years younger than Pacquiao. He's known for his aggressive style and stamina. Barrios represents a new generation of boxers, setting up a clash between eras.

Las Vegas will host the fight, a fitting location given how much of Pacquiao's legendary career unfolded there. The bout gives Pacquiao a chance to reclaim championship status and add to his already impressive legacy.

Pacquiao's return at 46 shows his deep connection to boxing. He's trying to prove he can still compete at a high level despite his age. The fight against Barrios will test if Pacquiao's passion and experience can overcome youth and stamina.
