Marquez told Fight Hub TV that he's not a fan of this matchup. He explained why:
"I don't like the fight. Terence Crawford's a good fighter, but in the sport of boxing we have divisions. Weight classes. He is a good fighter in super-lightweight, welterweight, super-welterweight, but more?"
Marquez pointed out Crawford's recent performance against Israil Madrimov at super-welterweight as a reason for concern:
"I remember when he fought with Madrimov. He looked slow, no power. Two more divisions? I think it's a tough fight for Terence Crawford. But he is a great fighter. He has great defence, good combination punches, but I think the weight class is no good for him."
Canelo comes into this fight with momentum. He beat William Scull on May 2 in Riyadh to win all four super-middleweight belts. It's the second time in his career he's held all four titles at 168 pounds.
