Emanuel Navarrete (40-2-1, 32 KO) won by technical decision against Charly Suarez (18-1, 10 KO) in the main event of the Top Rank boxing evening in San Diego, USA. The fight was stopped due to a cut that, according to the referee, was caused by an accidental head clash.

After seven rounds, the Mexican was leading by points 78-75 and twice 77-76. Thus, Navarrete defended his WBO world champion title in the super featherweight division.

The fight was very close, and Navarrete was traditionally very active but took a lot of punches. For Suarez, this was his first chance to win a championship in his career. According to official data, the Mexican earned a million dollars for this appearance.
