Briggs, now 53, hasn't fought in almost a decade. His last bout was a quick win over Emilio Zarate in London. But the Brooklyn native claims he never really hung up his gloves.

"I haven't really retired, they just won't fight me," Briggs told Fight Hub TV. "I'm gunna fight so if he wants to go, we go."

Wilder, 39, is looking to bounce back after a rough patch. He lost two fights in a row, first to former WBO champ Joseph Parker, then a knockout defeat to Zhilei "Big Bang" Zhang. Many thought Wilder would call it quits after the Zhang loss, but he's scheduled to face Tyrrell Herndon on June 27.

Briggs sees an opportunity in Wilder's comeback plans. He thinks a showdown between the two heavy hitters would be a hit in Wilder's home state.

"I'd like to fight him, I think it'd be a great fight Alabama when he comes back," Briggs said.

The former champ has been open to returning to the ring for years. He once chased a fight with Wladimir Klitschko, following the Ukrainian star around the world to drum up interest.

Briggs' call-out adds an interesting twist to Wilder's comeback. The Alabama native needs a win to get back on track. A fight with the veteran Briggs could be risky, but it might also generate buzz for both fighters.

For now, Wilder's focus is on his upcoming bout with Herndon. But if he's looking for a big-name opponent down the line, "The Cannon" Shannon Briggs is ready and waiting.
