Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois are close to agreeing on a rematch for the undisputed heavyweight championship. The fight will take place at Wembley Stadium on July 12.
The two fighters first met in August 2023 in Poland. Usyk won that bout by knockout in the ninth round. But the fight wasn't without controversy. In the fifth round, Dubois landed a punch that many spectators thought was legal and could have ended the fight. The referee, however, ruled it a low blow and gave Usyk five minutes to recover.
Since then, Dubois has been on a tear. He's knocked out Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua. These wins have turned him into a heavyweight champion and star. It's a remarkable turnaround for a fighter who almost lost an eye in a bout with Joe Joyce.
Dubois was supposed to fight Joseph Parker for the IBF heavyweight title. But he got sick the week of the fight, and Martin Bakole stepped in. The winner of that fight was meant to face Usyk for all four belts.
Mike Coppinger from ringmagazine.com reports that this rematch is now more interesting. Dubois has grown as a fighter and achieved a lot since their first meeting.
"The Cat" Usyk has always been better than his challengers, but Dubois' recent performances make this a compelling matchup.
The heavyweight division is heating up, and fans can't wait to see if Dubois can avenge his loss or if Usyk will prove once again why he's the undisputed champion.
