Algieri knows what it's like to face Benn in the ring. Back in December 2021, Benn knocked him down in the second round and stopped him in the fourth. It was one of Benn's best punches to date.
Since then, Benn has kept winning. He beat Adrian Granados by decision and knocked out Samuel Vargas in the first round. His last two fights went the distance, which has made some people wonder if he can bring his power up to middleweight for the Eubank Jr fight.
Algieri talked to FightHype about his experience with Benn's power. He said:
"It wasn't Pacquiao power. I could hit him with punches that he felt. His power is different from other fighters like Pacquiao or Spence. Benn needs more development, but he's very explosive and covers distance well for a short fighter."
Algieri thinks Benn matches up well with Eubank Jr. But there's a catch - Eubank Jr is naturally bigger. They'll fight at middleweight, and there's a special rule about weight. Eubank Jr can only gain 10 pounds after the weigh-in on the morning of the fight.
The fight on April 26th will show if Benn can handle a bigger opponent and if his power will work at a higher weight. It's a big test for both fighters, and fans can't wait to see what happens.
