Mauricio Sulaiman, in a statement sent to The Ring magazine, commented on the signing of Turki Al Al Sheikh to a TKO consortium that plans to create an elite boxing league. Many believe that the league could pose a threat and serious competition to boxing sanctioning organizations. However, the head of the WBC assures that he is positive about the new project.

"WBC's position is clear and simple. We do not intend to speculate or hinder the development of a new company. Instead, we offer openness and full support to those who want to promote boxing. These are very important companies and as such we envision that they will create great opportunities for and benefit boxers. We will not allow ourselves to be provoked and will not respond to opinions that present negative scenarios and lead to confrontation between members of the boxing community. Boxing is a worldwide sport, it has been and will continue to be popular, and every boxer's journey begins in a small gym. Small gyms or small promotional groups provide an opportunity to develop talents before stepping onto the big stage," said Suleiman, adding that there is a place for everyone in boxing.
