Lennox Lewis, the former heavyweight champ, thinks Deontay Wilder should hang up his gloves. He shared this advice after Wilder's recent loss to Zhilei Zhang.
Lewis knows a thing or two about when to call it quits. He stepped away from the ring in 2003 after stopping Vitali Klitschko due to cuts at the end of the sixth round. That capped off a stellar 44-fight career where Lewis beat every opponent he faced.
The British-Canadian fighter's record includes wins over big names like Mike Tyson, Frank Bruno, and Shannon Briggs. He also showed his grit by winning rematches against Oliver McCall and Hasim Rahman after surprise knockout losses. And let's not forget his unanimous decision victory over Evander Holyfield following a controversial draw in their first bout.
Now, Lewis is concerned about Wilder's recent performances. The former WBC heavyweight champ has lost his last two fights and won only one of his last five. His latest setback came in a knockout loss to Zhilei Zhang.
Lewis shared his thoughts on social media, saying:
"The Bronze Bomber told us before the fight that he would retire if he didn't win. I think that's a wise decision."
Lewis believes Wilder has already secured his financial future. He's worried about the health risks if Wilder keeps fighting, especially the importance of preserving brain function after a boxing career.
But Wilder's trainer, Malik Scott, has other ideas. He says Wilder will keep fighting and plans to return to the ring next year.
