In a huge big WBC/WBA welterweight unification clash between unbeaten world champions, WBA kingpin Keith “One Time” Thurman (28-0, 22 KOs) won a twelve round split decision over WBC boss Danny “Swift” Garcia (33-1, 19 KOs) on Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Welterweight Sam Eggington (20-3. 12 KOs) scored an eighth round KO over former world champion Paulie Malignaggi (37-8, 7 KOs) on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London. Malignaggi appeared headed to a decision win when Eddington suddenly finished him with a body shot. Malignaggi was counted out.
In an intense grudge match, WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew (29-2-1, 19 KOs) scored an eleventh round TKO over former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (28-3, 26 KOs) on Saturday night at the O2 Arena in London. 5:1 underdog Bellew dropped Haye in round six with a barrage of punches. Haye gamely continued favoring an injured right leg. Bellew knocked Haye through the ropes in round eleven and Haye’s corner threw in the towel. Time was 2:16.
Many will remember former world champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez trading punches with a cornerman for Wilfredo Vazquez Jr after Juanma’s KO win over Vazquez last year at the Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan. Now Juanma and Vazquez’ trainer Albert ‘El Entrenadorcito’ Rivera will settle the score in a five round boxing exhibition on March 17 at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in Bayamon with all collected funds going to benefit various causes chosen by the fighters.

David Haye scaled his usual comeback weight of 224 pounds on Thursday as the Londoner prepares to face Tony Bellew on Saturday night. Bellew, the current WBC Cruiserweight champion, added 13 pounds to his bulk by coming in at 213 or 15 stone 2.
