Cano, Maldonado set date at Cowboys' facility

Hard-hitting junior welterweights Pablo Cesar Cano and Fidel Maldonado Jr. will square off in a 10-round fight on June 17 at the Tostitos Championship Plaza at The Star in Frisco, Texas, Golden Boy Promotions announced Wednesday. The fight, which will be the first boxing event to take place at the training facility of the Dallas Cowboys, will headline a "Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN" card (ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes, 10 p.m. ET).

Junior lightweight world titleholder Gervonta "Tank" Davis, who looked spectacular in an exciting seventh-round knockout of Jose Pedraza to claim a 130-pound world title on Jan. 14 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, will not be making his initial defense at home in Baltimore, where he would surely draw a crowd.

Welterweight champion Kell Brook would have been considered to be a picture of health, although considering he weighed 160 pounds plus for his last fight in September against Gennady Golovkin, some worries have now crept in. Brook already seemed to be uncharacteristically on weight with time to spare for his 147 pound battle with mandatory challenger Spence at Brammall Lane as the Yorkshireman was ripped up and looked skinnier than usual during his latest fight camp.

IBF consider Matchroom exception request for Joshua v Klitschko II

As promoter Eddie Hearn revealed this week, Wladimir Klitschko is set to invoke a rematch clause with Anthony Joshua following an eleventh round stoppage at the hands of the Briton at Wembley Stadium last month. It had been thought the IBF would move to strip Joshua for not facing mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev immediately, although Matchroom Boxing have asked the International Boxing Federation to reconsider any decision.
