Gennady Golovkin (40-1-1, 35 KOs) scored in the close battle a difficult and controversial unanimous decision win over Sergiy Derevyanchenko (13-2, 10 KOs) and captured the vacant IBF middleweight title in the main event of the evening at the Madison Square Garden arena in New York.
On 5 October in New York Gennady Golovkin faced Sergiy Derevyanchenko in the battle for the vacant IBF middleweight title. For Derevyanchenko it was a second chance to win the title in the meeting with GGG, he also received a record purse in his career of more than $5 million. For 37-year-old Golovkin it was a chance to show the fruits of working with a new coach, to regain the title and try to make money trilogy with Canelo Alvarez.
Gennady Golovkin (39-1-1, 35 KOs) and Sergiy Derevyanchenko (13-1, 10 KOs) went the officially weigh-in procedure on the eve of their fight on 5 October in New York for the vacant middleweight title. Golovkin was 159.2 pounds, Derevyanchenko was 159 pounds. The official part of the weigh-in was close, later fighters took part in the show for fans and journalists.
On October 5 at the Madison Square Garden arena Gennady Golovkin and Sergiy Derevyanchenko will fight for the vacant IBF middleweight title. This fight will be the main event of the evening boxing from DAZN stream platform. On the eve of this event Derevyanchenko and Golovkin arrived in New York, where they held an open training session. For a boxer from Kazakhstan it will be the seventh in his career fight on the arena of Mecca of boxing. All the previous fights at Madison GGG won by KOs.
