Julio César Chávez Jr. is a Mexican professional boxer and the son of legendary champion Julio César Chávez. Born on February 16, 1986, in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Chávez Jr. followed his father’s path into boxing and began his professional career in 2003 at the age of 17.
Chávez Jr. built an impressive early record against a series of experienced journeymen and contenders, gradually establishing himself as a prominent figure in the middleweight and super middleweight divisions. In 2011, he won the WBC middleweight title by defeating Sebastian Zbik via majority decision, becoming the first Mexican boxer to hold a world middleweight belt. He successfully defended the title against Peter Manfredo Jr., Marco Antonio Rubio, and Andy Lee.
In 2012, Chávez Jr. faced Sergio Martínez in a highly anticipated title fight. Despite losing a unanimous decision, Chávez scored a dramatic knockdown in the final round and demonstrated his resilience against an elite opponent.
