Ward on Mayweather’s return to pro ring: "I don’t want to see him get defeated"

According to Ward, the return of the legendary American evokes mixed feelings in him. He is positively inclined towards the idea of a second fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao, but expresses serious concern about Floyd's plans to continue his career as an active professional boxer with sanctioned fights.

"For me, it's a bittersweet feeling. I am not at all against Floyd and Manny facing off in the ring again, but if Mayweather really starts to hold a real campaign with official fights, as he appears to intend, then I have big questions here," Ward noted.

Andre emphasized the main danger of such a step: "I really don't want to see Floyd suffer a defeat from some little-known fighter. Even worse would be to see a younger opponent defeat him. Today's young guys step into the ring to truly win. They hold no reverence for Mayweather's name and will gladly take his legendary '0' into their record. For them, a victory over him will become the pinnacle of their career — after this, hardly anything will compare to such an achievement and will forever leave their name in boxing history," he added.

The rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao is scheduled for September 19. The bout will take place in Las Vegas at the famous arena The Sphere and will be the first professional boxing event at this innovative venue. The broadcast will be available worldwide on the streaming platform Netflix.
