Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Terence Crawford are gearing up for a big fight. Mexican boxing legend Juan Manuel Marquez thinks Canelo will win by decision.
The two champions will face off on September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Canelo's undisputed super-middleweight crown will be on the line. Crawford's jumping up two weight divisions for this bout, which will be streamed live on Netflix.
In a recent interview, Marquez shared his thoughts on the fight:
"I think it will be a good fight, but I think the main difference is the weight. The advantage is for Canelo Alvarez. It's two divisions … but let me tell you something, Terence Crawford is a great fighter. He moves very well in the ring. He uses speed and he's a smart fighter. But the weight is important for Canelo."
Marquez believes the old boxing adage that a good big man beats a good little one will hold true in this case.
Canelo, the undisputed super-middleweight champion, hasn't stopped an opponent since his 2021 fight against Caleb Plant. His recent fights have gone the distance, with some calling his performance against William Scull underwhelming. He's knocked down Edgar Berlanga, Jermell Charlo, and John Ryder in his last few bouts.
Crawford, on the other hand, had a streak of 11 stoppages before his recent fight with Israil Madrimov at 154 lbs. That bout was Crawford's first and only at that weight class.
Crawford's trainer, Brian 'BoMac' McIntyre, thinks his fighter will end the fight inside the distance. But Marquez isn't so sure.
"I think Canelo by decision."
The weight difference will be a big factor in this fight. Crawford's only had one bout at 154 lbs, and now he's jumping up to 168 lbs to face Canelo. It's a big leap, and it's got people wondering if Crawford can handle the extra weight.
Both fighters are known for their skills in the ring. Canelo's got the size advantage, but Crawford's got speed and smarts on his side. We'll have to wait until September 13 to see how it all plays out.
