Benn started the fight with intensity, throwing big shots and trying to catch Eubank Jr. off guard. As the fight progressed, Eubank Jr. found his rhythm, landing notable uppercuts and combinations that made their way through Benn's guard. The final round turned into a slugfest with both fighters showing signs of fatigue but still posing a threat.
After 36 minutes of non-stop action, the judges awarded Eubank Jr. a unanimous points decision. The brutal nature of the fight led to both boxers being taken to hospital as a precaution.
At the post-fight press conference, Benn reflected on his performance and the challenges of fighting at a higher weight class.
"I'm glad to see [the last two years] have not taken anything away from me. I proved I can take punches at 160. You don't always want to test that, and my goal is not to test that, but I can also dish it out at 160 and hurt my opponent."
Despite the loss, Benn felt he had put up a competitive fight and expressed frustration at not securing the victory.
"If it was as close as people were saying it is, that's what's painful. I weren't outclassed, I weren't hurt in there. I just couldn't get the finish. I couldn't pull the trigger and keep it moving."
Benn's tough and gritty performance showed he could handle himself at 160 lbs, claiming he was never really hurt by Eubank Jr.'s punches. Looking ahead, Benn might pursue a rematch with Eubank Jr. or return to the welterweight division, where a potential clash with WBC Champion Mario Barrios could be on the cards.
