Gervonta Davis might not give Lamont Roach Jr a chance to even the score. The WBA lightweight champion kept his belt after a split decision draw on March 1 in New York, but a rematch looks unlikely.
Eddie Hearn, a well-known boxing promoter, shared his thoughts on the situation. He said Davis will probably fight Jake Paul instead.
"He's fighting Jake Paul isn't he," Hearn told Fight Hub TV. "I know he's fighting Jake Paul in November, and then maybe [Shakur] Stevenson after that."
The first fight between Davis and Roach Jr had its share of drama. In the ninth round, Roach forced Davis to take a knee. But referee Steve Willis didn't call it an official knockdown. This decision might have cost Roach his shot at the title.
Jake Paul, known as "The Problem Child," started boxing five years ago. At 27, the Cleveland native has already faced some big names. He's fought Anderson Silva, Tyron Woodley, and even Mike Tyson.
Paul's last fight was a big one. He took on Mike Tyson last November at AT&T; Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The young boxer won by unanimous decision after eight rounds.
But before any potential Davis fight, Paul has another challenge lined up. He'll face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, a former WBC middleweight champion, on June 28 in California.
If Hearn's information is correct, Davis will skip the rematch with Roach Jr. Instead, he'll set his sights on Jake Paul for November. After that, a fight with Shakur Stevenson could be next on the list.
