Before that mega-fight happens, Canelo's got some business to take care of. He'll face William Scull on May 3 in Riyadh for the IBF super-middleweight title. If he wins, he'll become a two-time undisputed champion at 168lbs. Canelo's already the unified champ, holding the WBC, WBA, and WBO belts.
Crawford, known as 'Bud', just beat Israil Madrimov for the WBA light-middleweight title. Now, at 37, he's taking on a huge challenge. The Omaha native will jump up two weight classes to fight Canelo.
Oscar De La Hoya, who used to promote Canelo for 10 years, thinks the Mexican star will win. In an interview, the retired six-weight world champion said:
"Canelo is a big puncher. The pressure of the heavier guy... Canelo will be 200 pounds in that ring."
But De La Hoya didn't count Crawford out completely. He added:
"If he pulls it off he'll be the messiah of fighters. Canelo walks on quicksand."
Right now, Canelo's focused on his fight with Scull. After that, we'll see if the Crawford fight comes together. It's a bout that'll have fight fans on the edge of their seats.
