Floyd Mayweather Jr. says he's better than Muhammad Ali. The retired five-division world champion made this bold claim in a statement to ESPN.

Mayweather believes his dominance across multiple weight classes puts him above Ali. He won world titles in five different divisions and retired with an undefeated professional record. His career includes wins over big names like Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya, and Manny Pacquiao.

Mayweather told ESPN:

"No one can ever brainwash me to make me believe that Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali were better than me. No disrespect to Muhammad Ali but he did it in one division. I just look at Ali's career when he fought Leon Spinks and lost to a fighter with seven fights."

Ali, known as 'The Greatest', rose to fame in the early 60s. He became the world heavyweight champion in 1964 by knocking out Sonny Liston in the sixth round. Throughout his career, Ali beat other legends like Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, and George Foreman.

Many people think Ali is the best fighter ever. He's also seen as one of the most influential figures in sports history. His technical brilliance and undeniable legacy have cemented his place in boxing history.

Mayweather ended his career in 2017 after stopping MMA star Conor McGregor in the tenth round of their crossover bout. This fight capped off an undefeated run that saw him dominate multiple weight classes.

Despite Mayweather's impressive record, Ali's impact on and off the ring continues to influence how people view boxing's greatest fighters.
