Canelo has held the WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF belts at 168 pounds for more than five years. The 34-year-old Mexican's record stands at 62 wins, 39 by knockout, with 2 draws and 2 losses.
Scull, 32, brings a perfect 23-0 record with 9 knockouts to the table. The Cuban stands at 1.81 meters tall, giving him a height advantage over Alvarez.
In an interview with the New York Journal, Scull expressed confidence in his ability to dethrone the champion.
"Yes, I feel confident that we will win and we will give a good performance. The knockout comes out, you don't look for a knockout,"
Scull's strategy revolves around winning the fight round by round. He emphasizes mental concentration, physical endurance, and dominating at all distances as key factors for success.
The challenger respects Canelo's status in the sport but remains unfazed by the champion's reputation.
"Canelo has two hands, he doesn't have three or four. If he had three or four, that's when you have to be scared,"Scull remarked, highlighting his realistic approach to the fight.
Canelo last faced a Cuban opponent in 2014 when he won a split decision against Erislandy Lara. Cuban boxers are known for their technical skills and ring IQ, which could pose a challenge for the champion.
The 'Fatal Fury' card on Saturday, May 3, in Saudi Arabia will showcase whether Scull can use his height, reach, and undefeated record to upset Canelo's long-standing reign as the super middleweight king.
