Jake Paul is rethinking his plan to fight Canelo Alvarez. The young boxer has changed his mind after beating Mike Tyson in a recent match.
Paul, who's 27, won against the 58-year-old Tyson in a fight that broke records on Netflix. Tyson only looked strong in the first couple of minutes. After that, he seemed to show his age.
Following the win, big names in boxing called Paul out. Champions like Artur Beterbiev, Gilberto Ramirez, and Daniel Dubois all want a piece of him now.
Before the Tyson fight, Paul had his sights set on Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez. He even said on the TimboSugarShow podcast:
"Me vs. Canelo at 200 pounds for the cruiserweight championship of the world is the biggest fight, arguably even bigger than me vs. Tyson. It makes so much sense. Canelo is on his way out. He's going to want a payday, and I want to show the world that all the s**t I've been talking about beating Canelo is actually true."
Canelo wasn't happy about Paul's fight with Tyson. He called it "sad and an injustice" and thought about getting 'revenge' for Tyson.
But now, Paul's not so sure about fighting Canelo. He said:
"Why the f**k would I give him the payday? When I beat him it would be the same bulls**t and lies… that Canelo was too small and Jake Paul paid him off."
There's a big weight difference between them - about 60 pounds in their last official weigh-ins. And Canelo's not hurting for money. Forbes ranked him fifth on their list of highest-paid athletes in 2023.
So, it looks like Paul's dream fight with Canelo might not happen after all. He's worried people won't believe it if he wins, and he doesn't want to give Canelo a big payday.
