Mike Tyson says (jokingly?) he won't quit boxing after losing to Jake Paul. The 58-year-old former heavyweight champ fell short against the YouTuber-turned-boxer in their controversial 8-round fight in Texas, broadcast on Netflix.
Tyson looked like a shadow of his former self. He landed just 18 punches according to Compubox stats. Paul got the win by unanimous decision.
After the fight, Ariel Helwani interviewed Tyson in the ring. When asked if this would be his final fight, Tyson said:
"I don't think so"
The legendary boxer even hinted at facing Jake's brother Logan Paul next. Logan fought Floyd Mayweather Jr last year. Tyson said:
"It depends on the situation."
Tyson also joked about his infamous ear-biting incident with Evander Holyfield in 1997:
"Oh, I have a habit of biting my gloves, yeah. I have a biting fixation."
Logan Paul didn't take kindly to Tyson mentioning his name. He posted on social media: "I'd kill you, Mike." This comment shocked many and got a lot of backlash.
Tony Bellew, a former cruiserweight world champion, slammed Logan's disrespect:
"Why be so disrespectful Logan Paul?? 'I'd kill you', do these idiots understand what Mike Tyson would do to them! He'd beat them so bad they would beg for him to stop! Saying you'd kill a grandfather is tough isn't it... I pray Mike stays safe."
Tyson's previous pro fight was back in 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride by knockout. He returned for an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr in 2020.
Jake Paul now has an 11-1 record. He's beaten several mixed martial arts stars and lesser-known boxers. This win over Tyson will likely be his most high-profile victory to date.
