Floyd Mayweather and Terence Crawford stand out as two of boxing's greatest modern fighters. Their impressive careers have sparked a debate about who'd come out on top if they met in their prime.
Mayweather ended his career with a perfect 50-0 record. He won world titles in five weight classes, from super-featherweight to super-welterweight. His list of victories reads like a who's who of boxing greats. He beat Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya, Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Ricky Hatton, among others.
But even the best have weak moments. Zab Judah seemed to hurt Mayweather at times in their fight. In 2010, Shane Mosley rocked Mayweather hard. Floyd bounced back and won that fight comfortably on points, but it showed he wasn't invincible.
Crawford's career is equally impressive. He's undefeated in 41 fights and has won world titles in four weight divisions, from lightweight to super-welterweight. His notable wins include Errol Spence, Shawn Porter, Israil Madrimov, Amir Khan, Kell Brook, Ray Beltran, and Yuriorkis Gamboa.
So, who'd win if these two met in their prime? Tim Bradley, a former world champion himself, picks Crawford. When talking to ESPN about the match-up, Bradley said:
"If I could take a prime Terence Crawford, and a prime Floyd Mayweather, with all the tools that Crawford has, I would pick him to beat a prime Mayweather any day of the week."
Bradley thinks Crawford has more to bring to the table. He calls him a master of distance and believes Crawford's punching power could hurt Mayweather.
Not everyone agrees with Bradley, though. Ryan Garcia, for instance, backs Mayweather in this hypothetical matchup.
It's a fun debate, but we'll never know for sure. Mayweather retired undefeated at 50-0, and Crawford's still adding to his legacy. Both will go down as all-time greats, regardless of who might've won this dream fight.
