Bob Arum Delivers Blunt Reality Check to Ex-Champs: "They're Done"

Ronald Crawley Sept. 28, 2024, 10:10 a.m.

Arum has been in the boxing business since the 1960s. He's worked with some of the biggest names in the sport, including Muhammad Ali and Manny Pacquiao. Now, he runs one of the biggest promotional companies in boxing.

The heavyweight division has seen some big changes lately. Wilder lost on points to Joseph Parker in Saudi Arabia. He then got knocked out by Zhilei Zhang, also in Saudi Arabia. Joshua suffered his fourth career defeat when he lost to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium. You can watch the highlights of Joshua's loss to Dubois here.

Arum shared his thoughts on these losses in an interview with Fight Hub TV. He didn't hold back:

"No, you don't have an off night getting the s**t kicked out of you that way. I think AJ has been in a lot of wars. I think it's over for him as well as over for Wilder. Maybe they can fight each other."

Arum thinks Joshua's career has been affected by all the tough fights he's had. He believes it's not just an 'off night' for Joshua. As for Wilder, Arum also thinks he's done at the top level.

Despite Arum's opinion, both fighters plan to keep going. Joshua has confirmed he'll continue fighting. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, thinks Joshua will want a rematch with Dubois right away.

Wilder hasn't said anything directly about his future. But his trainer, Malik Scott, has told fans they haven't seen the last of Wilder in the ring.

Arum also mentioned a possible fight between Joshua and Tyson Fury. This might happen if Fury loses to Oleksandr Usyk in December. It could be a big all-British clash that fans would love to see.
