Unbeaten American boxer Virgil Ortiz Jr. has spoken out about his upcoming fight against Australian Tim Tszyu, scheduled for August 4 in Los Angeles. At stake will be the interim WBA featherweight belt.

"I don't think I have fast hands. But I have a high fight IQ. People think I'm kicking forward. But that's their business, I don't care. My strongest quality is improvisation. Yeah, I already know how my fight against Tim's gonna go. It's going to be World War III, but it's going to be technical. We won't just "throw soldiers into battle", we'll use tactics.

It's going to be a tough fight, the outcome of which is hard to predict. We'll study Tszyu, we'll understand what we need to work on. I'm excited about this fight," Ortiz said in an interview with Sean Zittel.

Masvidal named his fee for his first fight with Usman

April 29, 2024, 1:40 p.m.

Former UFC welterweight title challenger Jorge Masvidal said his first fight with former division champion Kamaru Usman earned him five million dollars.

"In the end we managed to collect 1.3 million pay-per-view buys. If I hadn't signed a contract with the UFC where I was guaranteed a percentage of those buys, I wouldn't have been paid anywhere near $5 million. I would have felt like I was taken advantage of. If I was able to sell 100 million pay-per-view buys, I would want a much bigger share than you guys are offering me in a guaranteed payout," MMA Mania quoted Masvidal as saying.

Recall that Usman defeated Masvidal by unanimous decision of the judges in July 2020. In the rematch held in April of the following year, Kamaru won even more convincingly - by knockout.

UFC lightweight division number oneArman Tsarukyan explained why Islam Makhachev, the promotion's champion at that weight, will not surpass Khabib Nurmagomedov.

"Not yet. Because Islam has never defended the title against a lightweight. Volkanovski is good, but he's too short and small, from a different division. Lightweights are completely different fighters. Let's see how Makhachev will look against the real lightweight Porier. If you compare, Khabib is ranked above Makhachev. But Islam keeps fighting and can break all records. But I won't let him do it (smiles). That's what I'm here for," Tsarukyan said in an interview with Michael Bisping.

Recall, Tsarukyan and Makhachev met in the octagon, and then Islam won by unanimous decision of judges.

Arman Tsarukyan, the number one ranked lightweight in the UFC, told how to beat the organization's current lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. According to Tsarukyan, Makhachev must be fought in the standup.

"We have to go out and fight, interrupt him in the standup. You have to put the right gameplan and beat him. That's it. Is there any chance to outscore Makhachev in wrestling? I already did.
