Undefeated #1 contender Errol “The Truth” Spence, Jr. (22-0, 19 KOs) scored a hard fought eleventh round KO over former IBF welterweight champion Kell “The Special One” Brook (36-2, 25 KOs) on Saturday night in front of 27,000 raucous fans at the outdoor Bramall Football Ground in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. In an action packed fight, Spence dropped Brook with a body shot in round ten. In the eleventh round, Brook finally took a knee and stayed down for the count. His left eye was a mess. By defeating Brook, Spence gained the IBF welterweight champion title. Time was 1:47.
In a clash for the vacant WBA super middleweight world championship, three-time world title challenger “Saint” George Groves (26-3, 19 KOs) won his first world title by scoring a sixth round TKO over former WBA super middleweight king Fedor Chudinov (14-2, 10 KOs). Chudinov did well until he was rocked by Groves in round six. Groves attacked furiously, while Chudinov covered up. Although Chudinov didn’t appear particularly hurt, he wasn’t firing back to the satisfaction of British referee Steve Gray, who crowned his countryman at 1:13.
