American middleweight fighter David Benavidez admitted that he owes much to the success of his career to the current holder of the WBA and IBF titles in the middle division Gennady Golovkin.
According to David, Golovkin allowed him to train near him for a long time, which allowed Benvidez to significantly improve his fighting qualities.
“After I worked with Kelly Pavlik, I came in and sparred with Golovkin. I had a hell of a sparring with Golovkin. I worked with him for four years, after which a monster settled inside me. It showed me how to handle that kind of power and how to be able to handle that kind of IQ.
I have great respect for Golovkin. He was the only one who gave me so much attention. He is like a mentor to me. Golovkin was like a friend to me. He helped me, let me train at his training camp. I am very grateful to him. It was the turning point that made me the Mexican monster that I am today,” said Benavidez.
Recall that on March 25 in Las Vegas, Benavidez will share the ring with Caleb Plant.
