Anthony Dirrell (33-2-1, 24 KOs) is another candidate for the fight against Saul Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs), who will return to the ring on September 14. Former world super middleweight champion in his last fight lost to David Benavides.
Canelo's team began negotiations with several potential rivals. Billy Joe Saunders, whom the Mexican was supposed to meet in May, is still in the circle of their interests, but the fight has not been officially confirmed yet. Alvarez can also cross gloves with Sergiy Derevyanchenko or Ryota Murata.
The 29-year-old Mexican made his light heavyweight debut in November and knocked out Sergei Kovalev the world champion at the time. In his next battle, Canelo is going to rise to the limit of 168.
