Khabib Nurmagomedov, former UFC lightweight champion, recalled his fight with the organization's former two-division champion Conor McGregor. In particular, Khabib stated that if the referee had not intervened, he would have continued to choke the Irishman.
"No, I wouldn't have let go. Because this is the moment where you are maximum, where your emotional state reaches the peak, the ceiling, you could say. And everything is fair. I think he and I, we knew what we were both going for, it's not just when you meet somebody out there on the street and you start choking them out. This is one of the best fighters in the world. Six months in advance we've been scheduled for a fight and we go out and find out who's better. Of course, it's not to the death. Would I have killed him? I think not. I don't think I would have killed him, but unconscious, that's for sure. Whether I would have controlled that moment, we'll never know. To what point I would have held him is a good question. I don't know."
