Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury expressed his opinion on the upcoming match between Deontay Wilder and Derek Chisora.
"I prefer Derek. I know that Wilder is done. He should have retired in 2021 when I gave him his last defeat, but he didn't. In the end, he's now earning less, although maybe he doesn't need the money at all. But who am I to discuss how much a person can earn in their lifetime?" noted Fury in a conversation with Gareth Davies.
The 'Gypsy King' emphasizes that age and accumulated damage deprive Wilder of key qualities. Timing and the ability to instantly engage in an attack—what used to allow the American to finish fights with a single punch, are particularly affected.
"I believe that if you're finished, then you're finished. And Wilder is completely broken down. I saw it in the fights with Joseph Parker and Zhang Zhilei. When you get older, you lose timing and the ability to pull the trigger. That's the main thing," continued Fury.
He paid particular attention to Wilder's style, which always relied on the destructive power of his right hand. When such a one-sided knockout artist loses this superpower, in Fury's opinion, his days in professional boxing are numbered.
"When you're a one-punch hitter who only counts on a one-punch knockout that has saved you from troubles in 40 consecutive fights, and you lose it—it's the end for you. So I think Chisora will stop him. Yes, Derek is older and has possibly had more tough fights, but I believe he has more left in him," summed up Fury.
The match between Wilder and Chisora is scheduled for April 4th and will be held at London's The O2 arena.
