George Foreman, the late boxing legend, gave high praise to British boxer Joe Calzaghe. He called Calzaghe one of the greatest fighters in history, putting him in the same league as Henry Armstrong.
Calzaghe, a Welsh fighter, ended his career with a perfect record of 46 wins and no losses. He held the WBO super-middleweight world title for over a decade, defending it 20 times. His career got even better when he unified the super-middleweight division and then moved up to light heavyweight. In his last two fights, he beat Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr before retiring in 2009.
Foreman, who was the oldest heavyweight champion ever, shared his thoughts about Calzaghe on X (which used to be called Twitter). He said:
"Joe Calzaghe was a fighting machine. Other than Henry Armstrong, boxing has never seen such. No-one could beat him; not even the great Roy Jones Jr. Roy Jones was about as good as they come."
That's big praise, especially when you look at who Henry Armstrong was. Armstrong was an American boxer who did something amazing in 1938 - he held world titles in three weight divisions at the same time (featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight). He won over 150 fights in his career and is seen as one of the all-time greats who changed the sport.
Calzaghe's style was something special. He had super-fast hands, great stamina, and a tricky southpaw style. He beat some top fighters like Mikel Kessler and Chris Eubank Jr. Many people think he's one of Britain's best fighters ever, up there with names like Lennox Lewis.
Some say Calzaghe could have been even more famous worldwide if he'd fought more in the US. But even without that, his record speaks for itself. Foreman's words show just how good Calzaghe was - a fighter so skilled that even boxing legends are in awe of what he did in the ring.
