Jake Paul will become a boxing world champion within two years, according to legendary fighter and promoter Oscar De La Hoya. The former six-division world champion shared his bold prediction about the YouTuber-turned-boxer's future in the sport.
De La Hoya, known as "The Golden Boy," explained his stance during an interview on Ring Champs With Ak and Barak. He said:
"I'm going to call it right here and right now, I think Jake Paul becomes world champion within two years."
De La Hoya believes Paul's approach to his boxing career will lead to championship success. He praised the 28-year-old's calculated career moves, serious attitude, and strong work ethic. The promoter noted that Paul treats boxing as a life-or-death matter and puts everything on the line.
Paul has made significant strides in his boxing career recently. In November, he won a unanimous decision against Mike Tyson in an eight-round bout. Before that, he defeated former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr by unanimous decision in June.
Now, Paul aims to secure a shot at a world title. There have been rumors linking him to shock fights with former world heavyweight champions Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder.
However, De La Hoya suggested a different opponent might be a better fit for Paul's ambitions. He mentioned Badou Jack, the 41-year-old WBC Cruiserweight champion, as a potential target.
De La Hoya's connection to the cruiserweight division runs deeper. He promotes Gilberto Ramirez, who holds both the WBA and WBO Cruiserweight titles.
Paul has become one of boxing's biggest names in recent years, despite some fans' disapproval. His calculated approach to choosing opponents and timing his moves has caught De La Hoya's attention.
"He's very calculated with his career, he's very serious," De La Hoya said. "It's life or death for him, everything is on the line. He's the hardest worker and he's orchestrating his career well, picking and choosing the right time, moment, and fighter to strike."
With De La Hoya's prediction, all eyes will be on Paul's next moves as he works toward his goal of becoming a world champion in the coming years.
